About this design

‘Baron’ Charlie Mingus t shirt

It is combination of artistic temperament and fiery humanity that makes so admirable and worthy of the shadowy moniker “baron”

A virtuoso bass player, he studied his instrument and composition in a formal way while absorbing music from the great jazz masters, first-hand, playing and recording with the Charlie Parker , Miles Davis, Bud Powell, Art Tatum and Duke Ellington.

Despite recording over a hundred albums and writing over three hundred scores, his output came in fits and starts with bouts of depression in between.

Charged with assault for punching a fellow musician in the mouth during a rehearsal, evicted from his New York City apartment for firing a gun through a neighbours wall, as well as many accounts of his intimidating temperament, not least due to his imposing bulk., earned Mingus the subtitle “The Angry man of Jazz”.
