About this design
BMW, or Bayerische Motoren Werke (Bavarian Motor Works) was founded in 1916 by a gentleman named Karl Friedrich Rapp . It all started with the manufacture of aircraft engines (this is still related in the BMW logo which shows a white propeller spinning in a blue sky).
The end of the war in 1918 had a huge impact on the German aviation industry, particularly on BMW who relied on sales of its Type IIIa . The 1920's saw BMW shift it's focus to motorcycle & automobile production, with the first BMW model's of both motorcycle and car being extremely popular. They never looked back.
Since then, BMW has grown to be one of the world's leading manufacturers of luxury vehicles, renowned for their quality & style.
Spanning almost their entire history, BMW have also been involved with many forms of motorsport, I have chosen their link with motorsport for my design with images of the two pinnacles of motorsport, the World Superbike Championship & Formula One placed within the logo. Although BMW are due to retire from formula 1 in 2010 (Temporarily I hope) I believe they should be admired for their contribution and so came up with this design.
