About this design
Chic
Chic are one of my favourite groups. Not only for the astounding musicianship of its key members rhythm guitarist Nile Rodgers and Bass Player Bernard Edwards, the latter widely regarded as the "Best Ever", as well as Drummer Tony Thompson, but for their impact, creativity, refined style and lasting musical legacy. Modelled on or should I say fashioned after, for both would apply, a combination of Roxy Music and bizarrely Kiss but with a totally original sound, they chose to "dress for success" with a slick uptown visual to accompany their driving funky rhythmic releases.
Chic birthed in 1977 at the height of a musical era now referred to as Disco which carries for some unknown reason a weight of distaste, much of which fell on Chic to take them down when it crashed, when in reality they are a separate and superior entity altogether.
Rodgers and Edwards produced not only Sister Sledge while Chic was still fully formed but also in time, David Bowie, Diana Ross, Carly Simon, Grace Jones, Debbie Harry, Madonna, Duran Duran, INXS, Depeche Mode, Mick Jagger, Rod Stewart, Robert Palmer, ABC, Sheena Easton, The B52s, Paul Young & Cathy Dennis (she in turn being the mainstay of Kylie's production), not to mention Chic's back catalogue being wholesaled by major dance and rap music producers to this day as well as the now infamous use of 'Good Times' as the basis for the Sugar Hill Gang's "Rappers Delight" and hence the entire Hip Hop genre. Huge.
