About this design
The Aerospatiale-BAC Concorde, the only ever viable supersonic passenger aircraft was a beautiful machine. It first entered service in 1976 and flew for 27 years. Reaching speeds of 2,330 km/h it could fly from New York to Paris in under 3.5 hrs (typical passenger airlines do it in 8 hours).
It was ahead of its time, and was forced to retire in 2003 due to the cost of maintenance and falling passenger numbers since its famous crash in 2000 (which was actually caused by a titanium strip that had fallen off a Continental Airlines DC-10, the strip punctured a tyre on the Concorde, which in turn exploded and caused a shockwave that cracked a fuel tank - resulting in fire & loss of power, causing the Concorde to crash.
It was a shame that it had to be retired and I think it will be some time yet before we see another supersonic passenger airliner. I have made this design to honor the Concorde and have used an image showing both the French & British versions flying, with the specifications of the aircraft bordering the image.
