Michelangelo`s David is the inspiration for my t-shirt. Have you ever noticed his hands are really big? (Have a look and see for yourself here )....The head and hands were slightly enlarged because the statue was supposed to have been viewed from quite a distance below, and so Michelangelo created a sort of artificial foreshortening effect - what a genius.
Most interestingly though, this David, as opposed to the many other depictions of the biblical figure which can be found in paint and stone, was the first, and so far the only, depiction of David before the battle with Goliath. And so, Michelangelo, through his genius and sensitivity, shows us a moment that, at its most simple, shows a young, scared boy about to go into the battle of his life.
