About this design
1957 marked Gilera's last season in Motorcycle Grand Prix racing. They ended on a high, they were completely dominant with five of the top ten riders on Gilleras. Libero Liberati won, Bob McIntyre was 2nd, Geoff Duke was 4th and Bob Brown of Australia and Alfredo Milani were 9th and 10th. Bob McIntyre on this Gilera was the first rider to lap the Isle of Man at more than 100 mph. A stunning speed given the brakes and tyres of the time. At the end of the 1957 season the Italian teams, Gilera, Moto Guzzi, MV Augusta, and Mondial acting collectively and by mutual agreement withdrew from racing. MV Augusta broke their agreement with the others and returned to racing, going on to dominate for the next 20 years or more.
Celebrate a great motorcycle, a great motorcycle manufacturer and a great illustrator, wear our 1957 Gilera t shirt by Peter Hutton.
Peter Hutton has been one of the UK's leading illustrators since the late 1950's. His reputation as an illustrator among the community of owners of historic vehicles is such that they are happy to partially disassemble their cars and bikes to allow him to deliver his take on the key components. In his own words: “Although I take some photos I do sit and draw the car, to draw is to understand how components fit together, you see things you cannot see in a photograph, drawing requires total concentration and an image is ingrained in the memory for when pen is put to paper for the final drawing.”
I would say it shows. There are eight of Peter's illustrations available on t shirts and I hope in time there will be more.
