About this design
Dazzle camouflage, also known as Razzle Dazzle or Dazzle painting, was a camouflage paint scheme used on ships during the First and Second World Wars. Ships would be painted with cubist shapes, usually in hash blacks and whites. When the ships were viewed up close, they seemed totally normal, but when viewed from a telescope over a long range, it was incredibly hard for enemy ships to get a solid fix on their position. Due to this, ships with the dazzle paint job were extremely hard to hit over long range, and larger ships could be confused for smaller ships, or a group. Although Dazzle camouflage was rendered useless with the invention of radar, it was an ingenious and extravagant method of cloaking a ship.
