Wear this t-shirt to admire the man they called "The King of Cool" - Steve McQueen.
Steve McQueen was at the height of his popularity during the 60's & 70's starring in films such as The Magnificent Seven, The Great Escape, The Thomas Crown Affair, Bullitt, The Getaway, Papillon, The Sand Pebbles and The Towering Inferno.
McQueen was known to perform many of his own stunts, particularly if it involved cars or motorbikes. He was infact an avid racer and supported himself during his early acting days by competing in weekend motorcycle events.
McQueen was so good on the bikes that during filming of The Great Escape, they had trouble finding a rider as competant as McQueen, and in one scene, if you look close enough you can see McQueen in a German uniform chasing himself on another bike!
He loved racing and found it difficult to choose between acting and driving, he actually competed in the 1970 Le Mans 24hr event, driving a Porsche 908/02 and won the 3 litre class, and was second overall to Mario Andretti in a 5-Litre Ferrari 512s.
McQueen was desperate to drive the legendary Porsche 917 at Le Mans and actually had an opportunity to do so with Jackie Stewart, but after his film finaciers threatened to cancel his next film if he raced... (it is unclear why he was allowed to drive the 908 but not the 917) it was a tough decision for Steve, but he opted to act, as the Le Mans event lasted 24hrs, and his upcoming film meant he would be driving all summer!
A classic racer that had the looks and the style to make it as a top actor, Steve McQueen deserves to be admired - My design shows a famous image of Steve taken during the filming of Le Mans (1971).
